Biographical Sketch

I hold a PhD in American religious history from Columbia University and am the author of several books, including “The Next Mormons: How Millennials Are Changing the LDS Church” (Oxford, 2019) and “Mormonism and American Politics” (Columbia University Press, 2016).

I speak often to audiences and to the media about the intersections of religion, gender, politics, and generation. Since 2010, I have been a columnist about religion in America — first for Beliefnet, and since 2012 for Religion News Service, where I am now a senior columnist.
