Biographical Sketch

I am an Associate Professor and Coordinator (chair) of Gender Studies at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley Colorado.  I received my Ph.D. in History, with an emphasis on U.S. Women’s and Gender history, from the University of Michigan in 2006, and my Certificate of Graduate Studies in Women’s Studies in 2005.  This interdisciplinary background enables me to approach Mormon history and Mormon studies from a feminist perspective, at times employing feminist theory and criticism to the Mormon past and present.  I am currently working on an intellectual biography of Mormon housewife turned radical feminist Sonia Johnson for the book series, Introductions to Mormon Thought, edited by Matthew Bowman and Joseph Spencer.  While my research focuses on gender in Mormon history, I also specialize in and have taught courses in Gender Studies; Feminist, Queer, and Post-Colonial Theories; U.S. and U.S. Women’s and Gender History; and the History of Sexuality.
